On Wednesday as Cannes kicked off a twelve day frenzy of star-studded premieres, parties and provocative arthouse films across the world, Russell Crowe and Cate Blanchett sashayed up the red carpet. For a gala screening of Ridley Scott’s “Robin Hood”, featuring Crowe as the legendary English outlaw and Blanchett as love interest Lady Marian. The Mediterranean sun beamed down as celebrities marched into the festival palace.


Jean-Luc, Woody Allen, Naomi Watts, Mick Jagger and Sean Penn are among the A-list celebs. On 23rd May they are expected in this chic French Riviera resort before Tim Burton’s jury award the Palme d’Or top prize. British actress Helen Mirren as she arrived wearing an off-the-shoulder black sheath dress and diamond earrings said, “Cannes is great glamour, great craziness. There’s nothing like it in the world, not even the Oscars”.
It was seen that thousand of star-watchers cheered as celebs like Salma Hayek, Eva Longoria and Bollywood beauty Aishawarya Rai-Bachchan filed in to watch “Robin Hood”. Aishwarya Rai Bachchan Bollywood beauty, did not disappoint onlookers at the 63rd Cannes festival when she walked the red Carpet at the gala opening, who has became a fixture on the French Riviera over the years. Aishwarya is in Cannes to promote her film, Mani Ratnam’s ‘Ravan’, on 17th May whose fist look will be unveiled.
Kristin Scott Thomas British actress played mistress of the opening ceremony. She introduced the President of jury, Tim Burton American director, along with other members of his team, which also included India’s Shekhar Kapur. On 23rd May, when Burton will announce the prize, Thomas will also preside over the closing ceremony.
