As a mark of close ties the Indian community has with Australia, a bronze statue of Mahatma Gandhi has been unveiled in the University of New South Wales in Sydney.
An official statement said, the sculpture that stands in the lawns of the library of the University was gifted to the institution by the Indian government.
The gesture is to acknowledge the work being done by the University in maintaining close relations with the Indian community and providing a safe environment for Indian students, Sydney based Indian diplomat Amit Dasgupta, had presented the gift in October last year when the crisis related to attacks on India students was at its peak.
Dasgupta asserted globalization and education are both key in spreading message against violence, at the unveiling.
