Flying has become the quickest way to get from point A to point B. Unfortunately, the cost of flying has increased over the past few years due to high oil prices, increased security measures and extra fees that some airlines have added. Luckily, there are resources out there to help you find the most cost-effective airline travel.

Websites like Travelocity, Expedia and Orbitz allow you to screen dates, times and prices of flights. You simply enter your information like your starting point and destination and the times you would like to fly and you will get numerous offerings of airline tickets at specific prices on a variety of airlines.

You then decide which one works best for you. And don’t forget that each airline has its own website so if there is one that you prefer, you can do the same thing on their site and see what they have to offer.

Some airlines have lessened the services they provide on flights. If you are looking for a meal on a flight, you may have to pay extra for that or simply bring your own. Many airlines will offer an in-flight snack and beverage, but that is it. Even blankets and pillows now cost extra. Don’t assume air travel is what it used to be. These expenses are not a must so keep your expenses down by not succumbing to purchasing these extras.

One good way to get a reasonably priced airline ticket is to book your flight earlier rather than later. If you know well in advanced when you want to travel, the prices will be considerably lower. Also, check the pricing multiple times a day. It is rumored that prices seem to drop very late at night only to jump back up in the morning.

Some airlines also offer special rates for certain travel dates. If you do not mind leaving on a weekday and returning on a weekday, you will be amazed how much cheaper the tickets are. The same can be said for switching airports as well. Flying into a major airport will almost always cost more than if you fly into a smaller, nearby airport.

Finally, make sure there are no hidden fees or extras associated with your ticket prices. Airlines have started adding little extras like checked luggage as part of the flying process. Take that into consideration when you are looking at price—a $200 ticket may end up costing you close to $300 when all is said and done.

Research has proven that internet activity has increased rapidly in the past few years, and is increasing every day. News channels and media agencies are taking their business online for the same reason, to reach out to a maximum number of their readers. E-news websites and blogs are replacing traditional paper news, because of their efficiency, ease of use and other useful facilities like instant updates, user feed-back, etc.

The internet has also provided a global platform to budding journalists and writers who want to showcase their talent on the web. Since there are a number of web-publishing tools available on the internet which can be used by amateur journalists to publish their news and works, there are a lot of interesting articles as well on the internet posted by them. If you are reading online news, then you will surely come across such posts, which often enlighten you on specific topics. Not only this, the journalists also maintain their own blogs where you can read other similar articles of your interest and post your opinions on them.

Online news is preferred by most people because they are categorized very well, and each category contains vast resources and topics to read on. You can select any one category of your interest and read numerous articles on them, including current affairs. Hence you can be up to date with the field you specialize in if you are reading online news. The Argentina coach is getting good support to get the coaching assignment for permanent tenure.

Argentina had a superb 4-1 victory over Spain in a friendly match on Tuesday. Lionel Messi scored the opener in this game. This was followed by goals from Gonzalo Higuain and Carlos Tevez in the first half. In the second half, Fernando Llorente scored the consolation goal for Spain and Kun Aguero scored one more for the winners.

Zanetti was of the opinion that they have brought happiness to the fans of the team because of their performance in the friendly. He said, “We have to all move forward. Fortunately we have given a great joy to Argentina fans, today they showed us all their affection before the game started.”

He added, “Spain were as good as we expected, but Argentina played very well and we were better.”

The 37 year old player showed his backing towards Batista. Although, he did not feature in the plans of former coach Maradona he had soft words for him also.

He remarked, “Batista deserves support, he is doing his job, he is doing very well, as did Maradona before, who did not fare so badly at the World Cup. It’s time to look to the future and a win like this motivates us a lot”.

With November’s elections for control of Congress approaching and pressure from recession-weary voters mounting, Obama announced the billion-dollar infrastructure spending program at an event in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, marking the Labour Day holiday in the United States.

Over six years the proposal calls for investment, including modernizing and rebuilding 150 miles (241 kilometers) of runways, 4,000 miles (6,430 kilometers) or railways, 150,000 miles (241,350 kilometers) of roads.

Obama said, “It sets up an Infrastructure Bank to leverage federal dollars and focus on the smartest investment. All of this will not only create jobs now, but will make our economy run better over the long haul”. In an effort to buoy the U.S. economic recovery and long-term growth, this proposal is among an array of targeted initiative that Obama will outline on Wednesday. The Obama Administration has already made through in the Recovery Act about the plans which build upon the infrastructure investment.

Obama said, “This is a plan that will be fully paid for and will not add to the deficit over time”. Reflecting business reluctance to hire amid uncertain economic prospects, the U.S. unemployment rate rose to 9.6 percent in August. The U.S. Labor Department reported on Friday, private-sector payroll edged up by 67,000, well below the amount generated in July.

In the United States, the president admitted that new jobs “have not been coming fast enough”. He further added, “These years would be some of the most difficult in our history. The problem facing working families are nothing new, but they are more serious than ever. And that makes our cause more urgent than ever”.

MUMBAI: Birla group stealing a march over rival Vedanta Resources that was recently forced by the government to halt similar expansion, the Aditya Birla group will double capacity at its alumina unit in Orissa after receiving environmental clearance.

A key raw material for making aluminium, Aditya Birla group company Utkal Alumina currently has the capacity to make 1.5 million tonnes of alumina. Debu Bhattacharya, managing director of the group flagship Hindalco Industries, said, “We went to the environment ministry for an approval for the expansion and we have got it”.

As it not only gives a higher capacity for conversion into aluminium metal, but also offers opportunities to boost profitability by selling it in the open market.

Expansion of alumina refineries is integral to metal companies such as Utkal Alumina and Vedanta Aluminium. Asia’s largest producer of alumina is the state-run National Aluminium. For Utkal Alumina, Bauxite comes from its own mines located at the Baphlimali hills in Raygada district of Orissa.

As Anil Agarwal-controlled company currently has capacity of 1 million tonnes at Lanjigarh, the move by the Birlas will likely push Utkal Alumina ahead of Vedanta Aluminium in the alumina league table. To take the capacity to 6 million tonnes, Vedanta had started work, but in the last month the work was stopped as it had not sought prior approval for the expansion from the central government.

Aditya Birla group’s aluminium smelters in Mahan in Madhya Pradesh will feed Alumina from Utkal. For the Utkal Alumina project, Hindalco had recently tied up $1.05 billion in loans. In the second quarter of 2012 it is scheduled to start production. For its Greenfield and expansion projects in the metal space, Hindalco has also earmarked a spending of about Rs 40,000 crore.

Kumar Mangalam Birla, while speaking to shareholders at an annual general meeting on Friday, asserted smelters expansion at Hirakud from 155,000 tonnes to 161,000 tonnes was progressing and in the second quarter it was slated for completion.

Mr. Birla said, Novelis which was purchased by Hindalco in 2007 for $6 billion, showed good results in terms of free cash flow, liquidity and adjusted EBITDA. Mr. Birla said, while referring to the Hindalco financing plans, he pointed out that through a qualified institutional placement issuance the company had raised $600 million.

The company announced the 7.68billion dollar purchase of the security vendor MacAfee. This is an all cash deal. It is the sixth biggest teal in the past three and a half years between two technology companies.

The acquisition has raised some question. This is the purchase of the security software company by a core microprocessor vendor. Many are praising the deal but some wonder about the deal.

They say why a micro processor co will purchase a security software co. Many say that that the chip giant will have an upper edge over its archrivals because of the deal.

Thursday July 8, 2010

The government has decided to give a three year drilling holiday or moratorium to firms such as Reliance Industries and state-run ONGC. This is because of global shortage of offshore drilling rigs. Prime Minister Manmohan Singh chaired the meeting of CCEA (Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs) on Thursday.

The official sources said the meeting approved a drilling moratorium from 1st January 2008, on 30 exploration blocks, one of Italy’s Eni, 13 for RIL (Reliance Industries) and 16 on ONGC.

Because of a crunch in availability of deep-sea drilling rigs companies such as RIL and ONGC have not been able to meet their work commitments for the blocks they had won under the NELP (New Exploration Licensing Policy) rounds.

For 30 blocks awarded in the fifth round of NELP, sources said the CCEA approved a drilling holiday from 1st January 2008 to 31st December 2010. In the wake of surge in crude oil prices in 2008, oil and gas explorers are faced with huge shortage of drilling rigs as countries stepped up oil and gas hunt, globally. Between 2007 and 2008 day-hire charges for deep-sea drill rig had shot up 250 percent. For not fulfilling their work commitment which includes drilling of certain number of wells, the companies faced huge penalties.

The ministry of finance wanted a system of incentives and disincentives to be introduced to rewards and punish companies based purely of performance during the period. Sources said, a grade system of incentives and disincentives will distinguish between companies which have completed the drilling work programme in deepwater acreages, which are being considered for a rig moratorium within the projected three-year exploration holiday period or earlier and those who are not able to complete the work.
