To assure the international community that its atomic programme was peaceful in nature, China Tuesday asked Iran to fully cooperate with the United Nation’s nuclear watchdog IAEA.
Replying to a question about a new IAEA report that says that Iran has produced at least 22 kilograms of higher-enriched uranium, Foreign Ministry spokesman Jiang Yu told a media briefing, “China has taken notice of the IAEA report”.
She further added, “We hope parties concerned would increase efforts and resume related dialogues and negotiations as soon as possible, to seek a comprehensive, long-term and appropriate solution to the issue”. After having a resistance more than month, imposing fresh sanctions against Iran, China voted for a US resolution in UN Security Council.
Despite UN sanctions, the IAEA report says Iran had been continuing its uranium enrichment activities. It has been called to cooperate with the IAEA to clarify its nuclear programme, which include providing access to all sites, equipment, persons and documents as requested by the investigating agency.
Western nations have raised doubts about its intent but Iran maintains that its nuclear programme is for peaceful purposes.
