The sensational Norwegian killer, Anders Behring Breivik, accused of killing around 69 people, was produced in the court. He is on a ten day court trail.

On the fourth day of the trial he disclosed some more facts of his killing spree. He today said that after planting the bomb in the government district, he had very little chances of dodging the policemen.

The anti-Muslim extremist said, “”I estimated the chances of survival as less than 5 percent,” referring to his July 22 bombing and shooting incident.

He said that he was sure of a police confrontation when he left for the youth camp in Utoya Island. Surprisingly, no one did stop him on the way to the island.

On the very first day of the trial, he admitted to the killings and justified his massacre as a defensive measure. He further said that he had no regrets and in fact, would repeat it if he was given a chance.

Justifying his killings he said that there was a threat to the Norwegian culture from the Islamist groups. He further claimed that he represented all the Norwegians, who want to save their culture and country from the culture and terror invasion. He was particularly harsh on Muslims and referred them as a threat to Norway.

Talking his justification to the highest level, Breivik compared what he did with the action of America in 1945. He stood tall by the world’s worst attack and justified as a way America could save more deaths.

Referring to the World War 2 incident he said that America did resort to the use of Atom Bombs so as to prevent further deaths. He cleared that what he did was similar to that. He pleaded not guilty, though confessing the massacre. He repeatedly said he tried to protect Norway and Europe.

India has paved its way into the elite club of long range nuclear missile armed nations of US, UK, France, China and Russia Thursday morning with successful launch of Agni V. the launch took place from Wheeler Island, off the eastern coast of India at 0805 local time (0235GMT). The missile took a flight of 20 minutes before hitting a target in Indian Ocean near Indonesia.

“It was a perfect launch. It met all the test parameters and hit its pre-determined target”, said SP Das, the director of the test range.

Congratulating the scientists Prime Minister Manmohan Singh said “Today’s launch represents another milestone in our quest for our security, preparedness and to explore the frontiers of science.”

Agni V is 17.5 m long, solid fuelled, three stage missile with a launch weight of 50 tons. It is capable of delivering 1.5 tons of nuclear warheads to targets as far as Shanghai and Beijing. However the Indian officials said that the test was not done keeping in view a specific country.

DRDO Ravi Gupta spokesman said “Agni-V is to meet our present-day threat perceptions, which are determined by our defense forces and other agencies.”

He said “This is a deterrent to avoid wars and it is not country-specific.”

China Central Television (CCTV) said the launch was “a historic moment for India and it shows that India has joined the club of the countries that own ballistic missiles.”

According to defense analyst Rahul Bedi the inclusion of missile by 2014-15 would increase India’s deterrence. The meaning of Agni in Hindi and Sanskrit is fire.

The uncle of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad said that his nephew will not be in power for longer from now. He said that the violence, with which Syria is burning every moment, is indicating the end of his the present Presidents dethroning very soon will come. In a discussion with journalist he said that the peace process in Syria has started and this is now under the UN-Arab League.

The envoy of the UN-Arab League Mr. Kofi Annan said that the peace process will begin now and Syria has agreed to this. But, this word from his own uncle is something against his own way to last for longer in power.

Syria is witnessing everything worse for its prosperity and Bashar al-Assad is in exile for long back. Syria is serious turmoil and then it comes to its Presidents dethroning. It meets mixed reaction and sense awe throughout the world.

Flying has become the quickest way to get from point A to point B. Unfortunately, the cost of flying has increased over the past few years due to high oil prices, increased security measures and extra fees that some airlines have added. Luckily, there are resources out there to help you find the most cost-effective airline travel.

Websites like Travelocity, Expedia and Orbitz allow you to screen dates, times and prices of flights. You simply enter your information like your starting point and destination and the times you would like to fly and you will get numerous offerings of airline tickets at specific prices on a variety of airlines.

You then decide which one works best for you. And don’t forget that each airline has its own website so if there is one that you prefer, you can do the same thing on their site and see what they have to offer.

Some airlines have lessened the services they provide on flights. If you are looking for a meal on a flight, you may have to pay extra for that or simply bring your own. Many airlines will offer an in-flight snack and beverage, but that is it. Even blankets and pillows now cost extra. Don’t assume air travel is what it used to be. These expenses are not a must so keep your expenses down by not succumbing to purchasing these extras.

One good way to get a reasonably priced airline ticket is to book your flight earlier rather than later. If you know well in advanced when you want to travel, the prices will be considerably lower. Also, check the pricing multiple times a day. It is rumored that prices seem to drop very late at night only to jump back up in the morning.

Some airlines also offer special rates for certain travel dates. If you do not mind leaving on a weekday and returning on a weekday, you will be amazed how much cheaper the tickets are. The same can be said for switching airports as well. Flying into a major airport will almost always cost more than if you fly into a smaller, nearby airport.

Finally, make sure there are no hidden fees or extras associated with your ticket prices. Airlines have started adding little extras like checked luggage as part of the flying process. Take that into consideration when you are looking at price—a $200 ticket may end up costing you close to $300 when all is said and done.

With so many people of the nation getting politically aware and active – more than they were earlier, that is – and with so many scams coming into light, it might just be the apt time to ask one of the most important questions related to the political scenario – Should there additional eligibility requirements to contest elections?

Presently all that a person needs to do to contest elections and get elected to the most important houses of legislature, is be twenty five years (thirty in certain cases) of age, be an Indian citizen, be of a sound mind and not have any criminal records. These requirements make three out of every five Indians eligible to contest elections. However, it is not just about contesting elections. It is also about having the right background, awareness, sense, attitude to lead the masses to glory.

What are some other requirements that our political leader could be required to have? No previous corruption/murder/theft/domestic violence cases proven against the person in court. For that matter, one might also want to have people with the above named charges – and not specifically proven cases – as a ground for disqualification. A citizen of India who has even a single FIR against him is not eligible to appear for the UPSC examination. If the government feels that such a person cannot manage the country’s affairs, how can he be eligible to lead it?

Also, no prior records of reneguing on electoral promises. Some people also want an upper limit on the number of children they have, as also the difference in what they preach to the public as opposed to what they practise in private. However, these counts will be subjected to only biological offsprings.

They could also be needed to have at least some minimum education that is relevant to the ministry that the elected people go to (for the cabinets). In India, any person can complete the education up the the graduation and the post-graduation level well before the required age of 25. So why should there ever not be an educational requirement for people entering politics?

It it shameful to see an IPS officer who has slogged his way through his years of education and the most competitive examination in the country, when he has to follow the orders of a minister who has barely seen the gates of any educational institution.

And besides these, like in the public service commission exams, there has to be an upper age limit for people entering politics. Perhaps the same as these exams – thirty years.

However, it will be wise to make these criteria required not at the parliamentary level, but at the party level. This would not only make the parties more streamlined in their recruitment but would by de facto reflect in the people going into the parliament later.

The world today is divided on so many fronts. Even though the Cold war has ended, new rivalries have surfaced. There is the threat from North Korea and Iran – or at least that is what we are made to believe.

China is marching ahead on all corners in its ambitious bid to become the most powerful nation. Then there are those corners of the world where things have yet to take pace- Africa, middle east, East Asia, parts of South America. There are countries who do not want to stay behind in any race – India, Brazil, Russia.

There is the threat of terrorism ranking in all squares of every continent. And then there are countries of Europe and America who have been arguably leading us all into the future promised. However, it cannot be denied that there are divided interests everywhere. And at times, nations resort to unethical means to win the rat race.

In such a condition, there is an urgent need for us to accept that we need a guardian who would ultimately and absolutely be the say on matters of international concern, discharging duties and catering to affairs impartially and righteously. The UN was perhaps formed with similar intentions. However, needless to say it has become a toothless tiger – daresay, a puppet of certain powerful countries.

We have already witnessed wars in Afghanistan and Iraq – one resulting in the death of a dictator and the other of a terrorist mastermind. However, it would be selfish and unfair to judge the impact of these wars only by taking into account the final result.

Many question the sole motives behind these wars and highlight facts that are chilling, to say the least. However, with interests of America – the most powerful nation on earth - intentions put under question, who do we turn to?

Do we NEED America as THE super power of the world to run things or are we ready for the new world order with perhaps China at the forefront? And no, one nation cannot be replaced by another. Why have a particular country deciding things about others? Just does not sound logical at the very beginning. Why not just honestly strengthen the UN?

But truth be told, the UN is the biggest joke that there is. It is structurally defective. If it was meant to be fair there would not be five members with veto power on security and military matters. Who is to say that their views are more important than others?

We need to refine and restructure UN and give it more powers – absolute ones on some matters. That is what we need to do. And because we cannot have five countries deciding things for us, we also cannot have one single country doing it either. We have to arrive at decisions together, as a group. UN is our best hope, provided we are ready to revive it

After long efforts to convince the Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, the Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s patience with his old friend has run out. After long time honoring the neighbor’s sovereignty, he has now declared that the developments in Syria make an internal matter to Turkey.

The Gulf Cooperation Council, the GCC for short is already in existence led by Saudi Arabia. This has six Arab countries as constituents. The council has been active now for long in its efforts to resolve the Syrian crisis.

Saudi Arabia’s King Abdullah asked Syrian President Bashar al-Assad for the first time publicly to come to an end to the repression of the protesters and to enact the long sought and the long promised reforms.

Such public statements by the leading Arab world countries and the most affected Turkey are likely to strengthen the coalition of the Arab world countries against Assad.

Saudi Arabia is thought competent to provide more financial assistance to the rebels in Syria for the arms they get from smuggling.

It has only been the restraint on the part of Turkey that might have kept the international community from intervening in Syria. But now as the country has itself become vocal against Syria, the way seems paved for an intervention in the country.
