Russia will extent the base lease for Armenia through 2044. This is a very wise decision to strengthen the military clout in the strategically important region of Caucasus and the Black Sea.
This is an accord that will make updation of the pact of 1995 as far as the 25 year lease of base is concerned.
Gyumri is the largest military base of Russia beyond its borders. The military base has strength of 30 MiG-29 fighter jets, 240 tanks and other armour, scores of artillery guns, S-300 air defence missile systems and some 3,500 troops.
The Armenia base accord is the latest step as far as military monopoly of Russia in the regions of Caucasus and the Black Sea.
